JAPANESE SELVEDGE DENIM
TOPMAN
High street favorite Topman have launched a new range of selvege denim. A product usually associated with high end brands, this affordable collection is likely to appeal to first time selvege wearers and denim aficionados alike. The heavy weight cloth comes from one of Japan's oldest textile mills, Kurabo in Kojima, which produces for Edwin, Taylor Stitch and 3 x 1. With selvedge (coming from "self-edge") the denim edges are woven with a clean finish and so won't unravel, unlike regular denim. The density gives selvege jeans a premium feel, and the longer you wear them the better they will look. In fact many enthusiasts will wear raw denim every day for six months to a year before washing.

There are three pieces to start with: two styles of slim fit jean (£75) and a classic workwear-inspired jacket (£85) which is perfect for the summer months. Kurabo has been described as "the birthplace of Japanese selvege" and this wallet-friendly collection uses long-lasting heavyweight denim that can be worn everyday. Available online soon.
